Barunga and Beswick are on Bagala clan land (dawaro) of Jawoyn language group. All Bagala lands are Duwa country. Therefore, the traditional owners are Duwa. However, the people who have to look after this country are the custodians, not the owners. They look after ceremony and other things. The custodians of Bagala lands are Yirritja, who are also Bagala people. On Yirritja country, Duwa people are the custodians and Yirritja people are the traditional owners.
